From Publishers Weekly
Emma, 10, is sent to stay with her aunt and uncle during her father's bypass surgery. With her constant, caustic jibes and her sudden, braying laugh, Aunt Bea lives up to her reputation as a "terror"; in Emma's words, "Aunt Bea's remarks about people were like being punched in the same spot over and over again." Emma overhears exchanges that reveal Bea's history as an alcoholic; she is perceptive enough to recognize her Uncle Crispin's fear of a relapse, to note occasional chinks in Bea's armor and to grasp that Bea has developed the habit of resentment"a kind of addiction, too." Acting out her malice, Bea destroys Emma's sole object of pleasure during her visita miniature village built with her friend Bertie from material scavenged on the beachand Emma departs with a hot lump of hatred in her throat. Her hatred dissolves, however, upon finding evidence of her aunt's bitter, sad self-knowledge; in its place comes a measure of understanding and the ability to take her first untroubled breath in days. Fox's mastery of characterization is fully apparent in this quiet but intensely affecting story. She deftly draws us into Emma's experience, perfectly capturing the simultaneous naivete and wisdom with which Emma regards the puzzle that is her aunt. Using simple but telling imagery and beautifully lucid prose, she traces the associative, instinctively hopeful workings of a child's mind. Equally remarkable are the nuances with which Fox renders the acerbic, seemingly impenetrable Bea. Her portrayal compels readers to consider the tragic consequences of such acrimonyto wonder, as Emma does, what it would be like "to be a person people were happy not to see," and ultimately to share in the subtle but redemptive compassion that is among the novel's finest achievements. A Richard Jackson Book. Ages 10-12.

This feel good book is about a young girl who is forced to live with her aunt and uncle during her father's bypass surgery. Her uncle makes her feel at home butfor her aunt, that is a different story. Her Aunt Bea, an ex alcoholic, definately lives up to her title as a terror. Luckily, she finds comfort in a new neighbor and a magical place on the beach. As for the rest, you will have to read it yourself!!

And when Skylar falls prey to an even more perilous threat, this special ops soldier must call upon all his combat skills to protect the one person who can help him win his freedom—and the only woman he’s ever loved.

Fast Paced & Exciting Military Romantic Suspense
By LeaF
In the first book of Stephanie Tyler's `Shadow Force' series readers are introduced to the suspenseful and deadly world of men who straddle the line between working covert black ops missions and serving in the elite military. As the synopsis of the book indicates, after being framed for a double murder he didn't commit Delta Force leader Cameron Moore was imprisoned and serving 2 consecutive life sentences. Cameron was 19 years old, and while street wise and tough, being caged in prison and subjected to inmate brutality left deep scars. Then 2 years after his conviction Cameron was approached in prison by CIA chameleon extraordinaire Gabriel Creighton who arranged for his record to be erased, and freedom. However, Cameron was pressed into another type of imprisonment. After entering military service and becoming an elite warrior, Cameron was threatened and forced by Gabriel to do his bidding and complete black ops jobs that had chipped away at his conscience and soul over a period of 10 years.

The good work Cameron does on his missions with Delta Force are what keep a man such as himself with pride and a soul, honorable. It was during one of these missions that he saved a wounded Dylan Scott who eventually became his close friend and confidant. After a near death experience, when Cameron is forced to take out one of Gabriel's `people' Dylan reveals some valuable Intel regarding the man who has had a noose around his friend's neck for a decade. Dylan has discovered that Gabriel has a daughter, Skyler Slavin and he convinces Cameron that he must use his military background to ingratiate himself, kidnap her and do whatever is necessary to finally rid himself of Gabriel Creighton.

Skyler Slavin has come back from the dead, literally. After her kidneys failed she required extensive dialysis treatment, a donor was located and she underwent a transplant. Following a dicey recovery where she hovered between life and death, Skyler continues a long road to regain her health and strength but is back on her feet. Needing a break, she takes a working/vacation in the mountains of the Adirondacks. Skyler is an author and she lost her muse following her recovery and she needs to start writing again. When a knock comes to the door and Cameron Moore flashes his military ID indicating he has been sent by her father to protect her, she is naturally suspicious. However, Skyler has been receiving threatening notes and tried without success to reach her father, she therefore accepts the handsome military officer's story.

In the meantime Dylan uses his numerous contacts, inside and outside the military to try and unravel the mystery surrounding Cameron being framed for the murders. As well, he looks for a now missing Gabriel. One of the people he approaches is Riley, a woman who is ex-military, a deadly killer turned black ops for hire, and she has a major grudge against Gabriel. Dylan and Riley have had an explosive on again off again affair and Ms. Tyler weaves a very hot romantic subplot into the narrative concerning these two people.

Skyler is very attracted to Cameron and the last thing he plans or expects happens, he wants the daughter of the man he hates most in the world. As I've mentioned here before, one of the reasons I love romantic suspense so much is that I think danger amplifies the sexual tension and sensuality of the interaction between the hero and heroine exponentially. Skyler and Cameron's story is no exception. Cameron Moore is Alpha, sexy as hell, a trained killer, but he is also written to possess an innate sensitivity and kindness that comes rocketing to the surface during intimate encounters with Skyler. Trouble does arrive in spades, and Cameron is forced to protect and save a still recovering Skyler from hired guns, intent on kidnapping her. As they fight and flee these aggressors their feelings for one another intensify, but can they forge a relationship founded on lies and betrayal?

Ms. Tyler also introduces the sociopathic and elusive Elijah, leader of Dead Man's Hand (DMH), a home grown terrorist organization that began by funding terror camps, and then branched out to black market weapons and organ trafficking. This is one scary group and Elijah is in the background, pulling the levers of what is an extraordinarily fasted paced, action packed plot that takes a number of surprising and exciting twists and turns.

If you read this review, you may think there is a lot going on in "Lie With Me", and you would be right. However, Ms. Tyler deftly ties the subplots together, making for a conclusion that is not only exciting but hosts a number revelations. If you enjoy a heart wrenching, thrilling, gritty and action packed military romantic suspense, you may like to give,"Lie With Me," a try. Ms. Tyler sets the foundation for the next story in her "Shadow Force," series "Promises In the Dark," which is Navy Seal, Zane Scott (I love this guy) and Dr. Olivia Strohm's story. I'm SO primed to read this one!

What is the Shadow Force? Read "Lie With Me," and you will get an idea as to how it begins.

Loved the book; Disappointed by Amazon
By T. M. Wiggins
I will start with the bad: I am disappointed that Amazon allows these psuedo-reviewers to spoil the book for future readers. Since I started with the 2nd book in this series, I then came on here to order the book only to find the first reviewer told the whole story. It should be titled "Beware: This is the Whole Story."
On the plus side, since I had already read the second book, I still got the first book. It was very good. And while the second book could stand alone, the first book connects very well and is a great first book to a trilogy. And unlike other authors (i.e. Lora Leigh), the characters are not the same but with different names. Ms. Tyler gives each character their own personality. If Amazon could fix the spoiler reviews, then the purchasing process would be way better.

High Fives to the "Force"
By OklaNannie
Because the story summary has already been given above, I'll just add rave reviews for another winner by Stephanie Tyler. LIE WITH ME blasts readers with an explosive and edgy thriller combined with sizzling and heart-wrenching romance. A marvelously well-developed storyline with an enticing group of characters makes this book a must read for anyone who loves romantic suspense.

Amazon.com Review
David Beck has rebuilt his life since his wife's murder eight years ago, finishing medical school and establishing himself as a pediatrician, but he's never forgotten the woman he fell in love with in second grade. And when a mysterious e-mail arrives on the anniversary of their first kiss, with a message and an image that leads him to wonder whether Elizabeth might still be alive, Beck will stop at nothing to find the truth that's eluded him for so many years. A powerful billionaire is equally determined to make sure his role in her disappearance never comes to light, even if it means destroying an innocent man.

In David Beck, Harlan Coben, the author of the popular series starring sports agent Myron Bolitar (Darkest Fear et al.) has created a protagonist who shares many of Bolitar's best qualities--he's a decent, generous, gentle guy whose loyalty to those he loves is unquestionable. So when he discovers that people he was close to may be responsible not only for Elizabeth's murder but also the "accidental" death of his father, Beck's sense of betrayal is as understandable to the reader as his uncharacteristically violent reaction. Coben is a skillful storyteller with a gift for creating likable characters caught up in circumstances that illuminate their complex emotional lives and deep humanity. This should be the thriller that breaks this talented writer out of the mystery genre and earns him the recognition he deserves. --Jane Adams

From Publishers Weekly
Every writer likes to stretch his legs, and here Coben, author of seven acclaimed Myron Bolitar mysteries (Darkest Fear, etc.), stretches his. He doesn't quite kick his reputation aside in the process. This thriller, Coben's first non-Bolitar novel, is a breezy enough read, but it's not up to snuff. It's got a nifty setup, though. David Beck and Elizabeth Parker, just-married childhood sweethearts, are vacationing at the Beck family retreat when Beck is knocked unconscious and Elizabeth is kidnapped. Cut to eight years later: Beck is a young physician working with ghetto kids in Manhattan, and Elizabeth, we learn, is dead, victim of a serial killer known as KillRoy. Or is she? For immediately after two bodies eight years old are uncovered on the Beck land, Beck receives a series of e-mails apparently from Elizabeth. His frantic search to find out if she lives dovetails with the equally frenzied efforts of cops to pin Elizabeth's murder on Beck, as well as the antic moves of a mysterious billionaire an old friend of the Beck family and his two hired thugs to frame Beck for that murder. Beck finds himself a man on the run from the cops his only ally a black drug dealer whose child he's treating for hemophilia caught in an overcomplicated tangle of lies and vengeance. Coben knows how to move pages, and he generates considerable suspense, but there's little new here. The narrative style is cloned from James Patterson, alternating first-person with third. The villains, particularly the billionaire and a Chinese martial artist, are as old as mid-Elmore Leonard or even Chandler. The black drug dealer isn't a character, he's a plot device, and the climax packs the emotional wallop of a strong episode of The Rockford Files. (June 19)Forecast: Heavy-hitting blurbs from Jeffery Deaver and Phillip Margolin, among others, indicate more about the solidarity of the mystery community than about this book's excellence, but should attract browsers. The publisher will pitch this as a summer beach read, and it's not a bad one. In fact, it may outsell Coben's mysteries, despite its flaws.

From School Library Journal
Adult/High School-Dr. David Beck's wife was murdered by a serial killer, or so the police told him. After eight years of struggles with his grief, on the anniversary of their first kiss, a message appears on David's home computer, a phrase he shared only with her. A current, digital image of Elizabeth follows and David's hopes soar that she is alive. His search for her is hampered by the FBI, who consider him a suspect in her death, and by a billionaire whose son plays a role in the plot. Coben has written a gripping thriller with page-turning suspense and enough humor to break the tension on occasion. His use of state-of-the-art technological devices to move the story along will keep YAs reading. Those familiar with Coben's "Myron Bolitar" series (Dell) will welcome his new protagonist.

Thrills, spills and a poignant love story
By Zarabeth
I usually don't write 5-star reviews because I don't read them and I don't think many people do. But I have to leave a 5-star for one of my all time favorite books.

I had never heard of Harlan Coben and happened to see a signed copy of this in a bookstore. I bought it just because it was signed and the story looked good. Yes, I am THAT shallow. :) This is one of those books that I keep handy and read again and again and again....

Lots of others have described what the book is about. I'll just say that I read a lot. I am rarely shocked. The ending of this book had me GOBSMACKED. It was amazing.

i have gotten bored after a few novels. boy loses girl in some tragic event that boy refuses to let go. against impossible odds somehow the unexplainably deep love that refuses to die saves them. they all start to read the same. it's a shame. he's a fantastic writer.

not a good read.
By Mgs
This was my first Harlan Coben novel, and it will be my last. The plot was interesting enough (although somewhat far-fetched), but the writing was so hackneyed I had to force myself to finish it. Also, the Kindle edition lacked any separation between sections, which was sometimes confusing. It would take several sentences before you realized that the narrative had shifted to a different scene/character. All in all, not a good read.

excellent folk tale
By Summer H. Helms
This story is an excellent folk tale written in both English and Spanish. My son loves it (we live in Mexico). My only complaint would be that its difficult to make a folk tale really really relavent. This whimsical story lacks that.

Shattered: Stories of Children and War, by Jennifer Armstrong

As bullets ring and bombs are dropped, children watch—mostly from the sidelines, but occasionally in the direct line of fire. Unaware of the political issues or power struggles behind the battle, all they know are the human, emotional consequences of this thing called war. This collection examines all of war’s implications for young people—from those caught in the line of fire to the children of the veterans of wars long past.

Critically acclaimed author Jennifer Armstrong brings together 12 powerful voices in young people's literature to explore the realities of war from a child's perspective. The settings vary widely—the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, an attempted coup in Venezuela, the American Civil War, crisis in the Middle East—but the effects are largely the same. In war, no life is ever left untouched. In war, lives are shattered.

Amazon.com Review
For children who live in war times, whether they understand the issues or not, the future is precarious. According to the United Nations, armed conflicts now kill and maim more children than soldiers. In Shattered, editor Jennifer Armstrong gathers 12 stories that explore the ways young people are affected by war. From Afghanistan to Hawaii, Civil War times to the present, Joseph Bruchac, Ibtisam Barakat, Lois Metger, Marilyn Singer, and others describe, in painful, sometimes wry, detail small slices of their war-splintered world. M.E. Kerr depicts the mixed feelings of the family of a conscientious objector. Graham Salisbury writes about a high-school boy woken out of a complacent existence to discover his island is under attack and he must don his wrinkled high-school ROTC shirt to defend his home. A single line of text runs along the bottom of each story, providing cold, dismaying background information about each war portrayed. Authors' notes at the end of the book allow contributors to give a little more of the personal history behind the stories. (Ages 12 and older) --Emilie Coulter

From Publishers Weekly
Twelve thought-provoking stories by as many writers cover a wide range of settings and conflicts. Joseph Bruchac, for example, describes a Native American teen's experience fighting for the Union in the Civil War, and Gloria Miklowitz chronicles a Jewish boy's arrival in Palestine shortly after WWII. Not all of the battlefields are literal: one of the most touching entries, "Things Happen" by Lisa Rowe Fraustino, concerns a girl who helps hide a draft dodger during Vietnam. Others are especially timely; in "Faizabad Harvest, 1980" by Suzanne Fisher Staples, an Afghani girl tells about the Soviet destruction of her village. There is no real pattern to the sequencing; readers may find it jarring, which may have been Armstrong's (The Dreams of Mairhe Mehan) intention ("People... are trying to kill you. Does it matter who they are?" she asks in her introduction). Other aspects of the book may be controversial, as in the lack of challenge to Ibtisam Barakat's understandably biased explanation, in an author's note, of the events leading to the 1967 Six-Day War (her story describes her family's terrifying flight from Israeli forces during that conflict). A single line of text runs below each story, supplying facts; while difficult to navigate, these lines lend context and stimulate new insights. Overall, this is a diverse and varied collection. Ages 9-12.

From School Library Journal
Grade 6 Up-A collection of realistic short stories by prominent authors, each of whom focuses on a different conflict and time period. Marilyn Singer's title story introduces Teddy and Thea, neither of whom was born when their father fought in Vietnam, but Teddy is developmentally disabled as a result of the soldier's exposure to Agent Orange. M. E. Kerr's "I'll See You When This War Is Over" tells of the struggle of Bud, a religious conscientious objector, during World War II. In "Snap, Crackle, Pop," Lois Metzger writes about the Cold War during the McCarthy era. Ben Forster's mother, the town's head librarian, is accused of being a communist supporter and she chooses to go to jail rather than speak of her past life, citing her right to privacy. These selections will make teens cry, will make them angry, but most of all they will make them think. Statistical facts related to the events in the story appear in a running commentary at the bottom of each page. Shattered is a well-rounded collection and includes source and author notes. This book is a difficult read, at least emotionally, but these stories are important. It puts a human face on conflicts in various parts of the world and shows the far-reaching consequences, driving home the point that no one is left untouched in wartime.

Very Good Read
By J.
I purchased this book for a class that I'm teaching in the fall. I'm excited because the book more than meets my needs for the group of high school students I will be teaching. I have not read the entire book yet, but I have already started selecting specific stories to share with my students as I have been reading.

Stories that span time and geography
By Michael J. Mazza
"Shattered: Stories of Children and War," edited by Jennifer Armstrong, is an anthology of 12 stories that deal with a common theme. To give a sense of the book, here are some brief introductions to some of the stories. "Shattered," by Marilyn Singer, shows how a brother and sister deal with the legacy of their father's Vietnam War service. "Bad Day for Baseball," by Graham Salisbury, looks at the experiences of a Japanese-American boy on the day Pearl Harbor is attacked. "I'll See You When This War is Over," by M.E. Kerr, is about a Quaker family during World War II. "Faizabad Harvest, 1980," by Suzanne Fisher Staples, follows the experiences of an Afghan family during the conflict between the mujahideen and invading Soviet forces; this is a particularly horrific portrait of war's impact upon a family and a community.

Also noteworthy: "Sounds of Thunder," by Joseph Bruchac, looks at the relationship between two Indian boy soldiers serving in the U.S. Civil War. "Golpe de Estado," by Dian Curtis Regan, is about an American family in Venezuela during that country's 1992 civil conflict. This is a particularly vivid account of being an outsider caught in the middle of another country's strife. Regan makes good use of her first-person narrator, and brings irony and a darkly satiric edge to the story.

The entire anthology is only 166 pages long. This makes for compact stories, but overall the authors have compressed some real power into these pages. Each story is accompanied by a crawling footnote that that contains supplemental information that is relevant to the story. It's an interesting and unusual feature that I appreciated. The book also includes brief notes on each contributor; all but one is identified as a U.S. resident. "Shattered" is a good example of fiction anthology with a tight focus. Editor Armstrong (who contributes a tale herself) has succeeded in crafting a rich and rewarding anthology that offers some compelling perspectives on a tragically perennial human activity.

Shattered Review
By Nargiz
Right now, war is one of the biggest issues in the U.S. It's preety much the only thing we hear about the news. However, whether or not we realize this, we are not the only ones that are affected by war. Millions of children have been killed during wars, or have suffered either from injuries or loss of family, and are now orphans. Jennifer Armstrong talks about these issues and also gives examples of such events occuring in many of the different wars that have occured. In some instances chidren hate the war, and in some they like it. Examine the different outcomes and ways that war has effected children's lived in "Shattered:Storied of children and war."

Book 4 in the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling Midnight Breed vampire romance series

In a world of shadows and dark, cosuming hungers, desire is the deadliest weapon...

For journalist Dylan Alexander, it began with the discovery of a hidden tomb, thrusting her into the center of a gathering storm of violence and secrets. But nothing is as dangerous as the scarred, lethally seductive man who rises from the shadows to draw her into his world of dark desire and endless night.

Fueled by pain and rage over a shattering betrayal, the warrior Rio has pledged his life to the war against the Rogues. He will let nothing stand in his way--least of all a mortal woman with the power to expose the entire vampire race. For an ancient evil has been awakened, and a stunning darkness is on the rise. Suddenly Dylan is powerless to resist Rio's touch, even as she uncovers a shocking link to her own past. And now she must choose: Leave Rio's midnight realm, or risk it all for the man who has shown her true passion and the infinite pleasures of the heart. . . .

Fourth in series
By Helen Hancox
Lara Adrian has really hit her stride! This is the fourth in her series about the Breed, vampires who battle the rogue members of their kind and who, one by one, find their mates. The first couple of books seemed to rely very heavily on J R Ward's "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series for ideas but it seems, in this book and to some extent in the last, that Lara Adrian has found her own voice. Yes, many aspects of the Breed's life seems like that of the Brotherhood but as Lara Adrian has explored her world more fully in these books they seem to have taken on more of a life of their own.

The hero of this book is Rio, scarred and wounded after the betrayal of his Breedmate Eva. Rio was meant to have destroyed a cave which contained the hibernation chamber of one of the Ancients in the middle of nowhere in the Czech Republic but as the story opens he hasn't yet done it. Several months have passed with Rio living in the cave almost like some kind of animal, suffering from the blackouts and mood swings as a result of his injuries in the explosion in the first book, trying to work up the energy to destroy the cave - and himself with it. Unfortunately for Rio the cave is discovered by a young American woman on holiday with some friends; not only does she discover the cave and see Rio, she photographs the contents. Rio desperately needs to do some damage limitation to prevent the photographs being shared with other people and the existence of the Breed perhaps being made known to the world. He tracks the woman, Dylan Alexander, but when he finds her he discovers things are worse than he had feared - she's a reporter and has sent the photographs back to her editor in America who has passed them on to some other people.

Rio realises all he can do is destroy the cave, kidnap Dylan and take her back to the Breed headquarters in Boston to get the other warriors to help to scrub the minds of the people who have seen the photographs before they are printed in the magazine. Things are even worse when Rio discovers Dylan is a Breedmate and that she has a very strong reason not to settle into the Darkhavens but to carry on her life in New York City. As Rio and the other warriors try to keep their secrets under wraps, investigate some strange murders and keep Dylan safe, things get very complex indeed.

This story was stronger on characterisation than some of the others in this series. Rio plays the damaged, wounded man very well - and he's also remarkably close-mouthed when it comes to secrets. Dylan, being a journalist, is full of questions, most of which aren't answered to her satisfaction. She is described very well so that we understand why she doesn't fear Rio as much as she might and how she is able to cope with and accommodate to the drastic changes in her life.

The other characters from previous novels are in this book, including Andreas Reichen in Berlin and Sterling Chase, the Enforcement Agent-turned-Warrior. However the vast majority of the pages focus on Rio and Dylan and their interactions; the 'baddie' in this book gets a few pages to himself but this isn't a distraction from the overall central plot - Rio's post-trauma problems and Dylan's life choice. It was a great read overall, probably the best in this series so far. I look forward to the next story, focusing on Nikolai, due to be released in December 2008.

Rio is to die for!
By Lulu
I just finish reading the breed series and what can I say but WOW!!!
I'm glad I got all 4 bks first, because as I got into the story, I just devoured them.
I least expected to like this series, especially after reading JR Ward's BDB books.(the 1st 3 were excellent) But I didn't care much for the BDB books that followed after the 3rd one. In the Breed series, I loved everyone of the books. And Dec is too darn long to wait for the 5th bk, in my opinion.

Onto the book.
All the heroes in this series are wonderful but Rio, he just steals your breath away. He truly does.
When you first meet Rio from bk one he is the happy go lucky guy, with a perpetual smile. (later on you realise there is more to him and the torment and darkness that he hides behind his smiling fascade. He allowed no one to know the real man, until Dylan.)

All that changes when he's betrayed by his mate, Eva, and he nearly loses his life in the explosion. As he recovers he's filled with pain, rage and hatred and changes drastically.( Who can blame the poor guy?)
Besides the horrendous pain and terrible blackouts he has to live with, the explosion leaves half his face and body badly scarred.
In hate and bitterness, he lives in isolation for a long time. When he can't take it any more, feeling he has nothing to live for, he finally decides to end it all. That is the day when Dylan accidently stumbles upon him in his cave. And his life changes once again.
And Dylan, she discovers a world she never knew existed and falls for a man who was like no other.

This series is gripping stuff. It has everything, Alpha heroes, strong heroines, wonderful loves scenes and a HEA. And don't forget those sexy vampire markings-whew!!!
This is my kinda book.
I like that this books doesn't devote pages upon pages to the Rogues (the Breeds enemies). Lara Adrian does this in a more forthright manner and she make it still interesting. And you have a mystery-threat which doesn't continue tediously throughout the series, which can be frustrating, but is solved by the 3rd book and a new threat comes from the closure of the last problem. It makes for exciting reading.
I like the way LA created her vampire race and how they came to be in existance. And the fact that they are warm-blooded, have a heartbeat and are half human. Its their human half that makes them the truly wonderful heroes they are. It tempers the other half that would have made them vicious and dangerous and true vampires.

Though I did not like what Eva had done, I'm glad she redeems herself in the end.
the story however, between H/H could have been a bit more indept and longer.

Follow Up Does NOT Disappoint True Paranormal Romance Fans
By Lisa Lang Blakeney
When I am in the mood for a paranormal romance, especially one featuring vampires, I prefer ones with an alpha male figure as the protagonist. And while Lara Adrian's vampires are not as "alpha" as say J. R. Ward's vampires -- they have a softer side which is also endearing and fits the plots of her stories.

If you have been following the series, this book is about Rio who is the vampire who got "jacked up" in the explosion in a previous novel.

The story is basically about him finding a reason to live and move on with his life, forgive the sins of the past, and find love again. I think it's the find love again part that was a hard sell for me at first.

I like my vamps to be one-woman guys. Either their soulmate or die! So when Rio found a new love interest in this book (which of course I knew it would be) I wanted to see how the author would play it out.

She did a good job. And I actually found this book to be a great read - and more importantly it delivered just what I expected from the author (unlike Ward's Phury novel). A great paranormal romance with a great continuing (soap opera style) subplot.

If you are new to the series, start from the beginning. But if you have been reading the series and you were just double-checking to see if you should even bother with this title - please do!

Is it possible? Can an ordinary human being really become a perfect person in three short days?

Milo Crinkley thought so. What gave him the idea was a book that fell on his head one day at the library--a book with the impressive title Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days! The author, Dr. K. Pinkerton Silverfish, did look kind of weird, but he claimed to be the world's leading authority on perfection.

Milo took the book home and followed its instructions. He liked the idea of being perfect. Perfect people never had their parents nag at them. Perfect people never had to take the blame for rotten tricks their sisters played. Perfect people never needed erasers. Perfect was obviously the perfect thing to be!

Did Milo become a perfect person in just three days? More important, can you?

Do you think we're going to answer all your questions here when we want you to read this hilarious book?

A personal message from Dr. K. Pinkerton Silverfish, world's leading expert on perfection:

● Maybe you think it's all a lot of baloney. Maybe you think nobody can become perfect in three short days. Well, maybe you should think again!

● Here's my no-risk guarantee: Try this book for just three days. If you're not absolutely delighted with the results, you can go soak your head. Now, what could be fairer than that?

● I won't be satisfied until every man, woman, and child on the face of the earth completes my amazing crash course in perfection. So, remember: If you don't read this book, I'm going to tell on you!

Give 'em 3 days and YOU TOO could be perfect!!
By Chess
Who says that nobody's perfect? Certainly not Dr. K Pinkerton Silverfish, the clown-nosed, messy-hotdog-eating author of the book "Be a Perfect Person In Just Three Days!" that mysteriously falls on our hero's head!
Meet Milo. He's your average kid, flawed like the rest of us, and just trying to find a good book on scary monsters at the library when "Be a Perfect Person...!!" flies from the shelf and beans him a good one. The author, Dr. S, is a very strange looking character in his author photo, dressed in a half-tie and Hawaiian shirt with that messy hotdog, but something about his eyes and what may be a smirk on his lips makes Milo want to check the book out. After all, who WOULDN'T want to be perfect?
He takes it home to read and immediately finds out that the road to being perfect is paved with strange tasks. Wearing a stalk of broccoli around your neck for one day and night, and not eating anything, for example. It's enough to make people wonder if you've lost your marbles. Still, if broccoli-wearing brings Milo perfection (kinda' like fasting brings inner awareness), then so be it! Bring on the green stuff!
B.A.P.P.I.J.T.D. is a quick, fast-paced read that will entertain and draw in even the most reluctant readers. It's short, weighing in at under 100 pages, so the length won't intimidate beginning readers. It is funny, ridiculous and clips along at a pace where you can't help but keep reading to find out what could possibly happen next. The language is easy to read but not condescending to young audiences. I teach reading to a group of normally reluctant, low-level readers, and within the first page everyone was hooked! Many of my students even asked if they could read THE WHOLE THING by the next day's class. Lo and behold, most of them *DID*!! This was not my doing; this was the ease and engagement of the book itself. Don't just take MY word for it, take it from the students who normally hate reading: this is a fine, fun book!

Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days was a really funny book. It taught me that nobody's perfect, even the popular girls that are in my class. It was easy to read, and I'm pretty sure that even grown-ups would love it. This book definetly gets an A plus!

A Fabulous book!!
By L. Carlson
o my gosh! This was without a doubt one of my favorite books as a child....I literally borrowed it from the library every time we went!! Milo, the main character, borrows the hilarious self-help book from the library ( be a perfect person in JUST 3 DAYS!", he gets more than he bargained for! His book is equally funny and amazing, as the chapters appear to be written according to what he is thinking as he reads along on the road to being perfect....This is definitly one of the better books out there, a quick and entertaining read, that your child (or even you) will want to read again and again and again..... :) May I just reiterate that this is a wonderful book??! ok thankx :) Have a great day!

From Publishers Weekly
A titled rogue courts a prim and proper lady in this spirited Regency romance by the deservedly popular Balogh (No Man's Mistress, etc.). Kit Butler, Viscount Ravensburg, is no gentleman. He has long scandalized the ton of London with his antics, and the Honorable Miss Lauren Edgeworth, who is in the city after a painful jilting, is even more horrified than most by his behavior. As the novel begins, Kit forges a particularly scandalous plan. Looking to escape an arranged marriage, he embarks on a wager with his friends to woo and engage an unobjectionably correct lady in order to rid himself of his intended. Lauren is the perfect target, and Kit gets to work. Surprisingly, he comes to like her and confesses his dastardly wager; she, having decided that she wishes to be independent and unmarried, makes a proposal of her own: a summer filled with adventure in return for acting as Kit's fiancee. But when the summer is over, and the gorgeous, intelligent Lauren has quietly helped Kit to reconcile with his family as well as earned the respect of his friends and kin, will the smitten Kit be able to persuade Lauren to make their engagement a real one? Balogh outdoes herself with this romantic romp, crafting a truly seamless plot and peopling it with well-rounded, winning characters.

From Library Journal
Viscount "Kit" Ravensberg and high-minded Lauren Edgeworth agree to an engagement of convenience that Lauren will eventually break off. But then Kit really does fall in love. Past Balogh works have made the New York Times extended best sellers list; maybe this one will rise to the top.

From Booklist
Balogh builds on the strength of her hardcover debut, More than a Mistress (2000), and its follow-up, No Man's Mistress (2001), in her latest sexy romance, a tale to relish and remember. Icy Lauren Edgeworth, who had been left at the altar a year earlier, is in London for the confinement of her aunt when she meets Kit Butler, Viscount Ravensberg, a notorious rakehell. Kit had been banished from his family home, but now that he's become the heir, his father has selected the woman he wants him to marry. Kit will do anything to avoid this union and plans to trump his father by bringing home a bride of his choosing who is clearly beyond reproach. To that end, he decides to woo Lauren. A bargain is struck, and Lauren, wanting one summer of adventure and passion before what she believes will be a life of spinsterhood, agrees to become Kit's fiancee, but never his wife. In what may be the most sensuous romance of the year, Balogh ably demonstrates that the hottest sex scenes are those that remain true to character and integral to the plot. Diana Tixier Herald

A deeply passionate and moving novel
By Susan Smith
I'd rather not review this book but, instead, "share my thoughts" as we are invited to do by amazon. Mary Balogh is so talented that she rarely fails to please and those who may have been disappointed by this story perhaps prefer stories which are not quite so introspective as this one.
One aspect of this novel I enjoyed was that it brought a happy outcome for some of those wonderful characters in One Night for Love. It also allowed us to watch a deeply hurt and misunderstood man and woman reach tentatively, hesitatingly for mutual fulfilment and and happiness. Kit Butler, Lt Col Viscount Ravensberg had, from all outward appearances, a brilliant military career working under particularly dangerous circumstances. Balogh alludes to this sparingly but with great effect as she explores the impact that war and command can have on a man. However, he is damaged and confused and hurt as a result of his experiences and this has helped to bring about a collapse of relations with each member of his family.
Miss Lauren Edgeworth was the jilted bride from One Night for Love who, we now find out, has turned inward on herself because of loss of her parents at a young and vulnerable age. She has some rather deep psychological scarring which needs to be expunged if ever she is to find true happiness and serenity of spirit. Her calm and cool manner hides a deeply passionate and loving woman who, sadly, all her life has felt she must exist to please others and never herself. Balogh writes with great insight into Lauren's character.
Balogh has written a novel examining the psychological make-up of two very interesting and sympathetic characters. They think and behave in a wholly credible and believeable fashion. She has truly made them come alive for me and, by placing them in a setting of a large extended family, she shows how sadly isolated both of them are, despite the surroundings of the comings and goings of everyday family activity.
I am truly interested to see if the author can make me like Lady Freyja Bedwyn who makes her somewhat alarming debut here. I look forward to reading about her and her family in the Bedwyn saga. I also hope that Sydnam Butler, Kit's younger brother will find a happy outcome in a future story. Much of the torment and turmoil experienced by Kit is directly attributable to his relationship with Sydnam. Sydnam deserves "fleshing out" and I hope to read more of him.
All in all, another marvel from Mary Balogh and not to be missed if you like heart-wrenching, immaculately plotted fiction with a rounded, mature H/H who mature to loving completion in a most heart-warming way.

I am of the opinion that this book should be mandatory..
By MominYogaPants
reading for every aspiring author (and some professional ones too). Maybe then we readers would be spared some of those atrocious, embarrasing books that are being published nowadays (and become bestsellers too!! Who buys this dreck???) Anyway, the point of that rant is that Mary Balogh has produced a gem of a book, a true keeper in every sense of the words.
After his older brother's untimely death the notorious Kit Butler inherited the title of Viscount Ravensberg (sp). His family, aghast at Kit's exploits in London order him home immediately to take his rightful place as the heir to a powerful earldom and also to fulfill his duty by marrying a bride chosen by his father and producing heirs. Kit, already estranged from his family, balks at his family's command and decides that he will find his own bride and marry on his own terms not his father's. He will even go a step further and instead of choosing someone completely unsuitable as his family would expect he decides he will choose the perfect lady.
Lauren Edgeworth is the perfect lady. She has devoted her whole life to perfecting the art of being a lady. She thrives on prediction and takes comfort in routine. In short, Lauren Edgeworth is a dead bore (or so Kit thinks) therefore she is the ideal woman for his plans. Lauren surprises him by agreeing to be his fiancee in name only until he can find a bride not of his father's choosing. In exchange, Lauren wants Kit to give her a summer she will never forget. He readily agrees. At the end of Lauren's perfect summer she will break off the betrothal and move to Bath to begin the life a respectable spinster. However, for Kit this was easier said than done because he was not prepared for the other side of Lauren. He finds himself captivated by the woman hiding behind the icy facade, apparently afraid to come out. Since Kit is not one to resist a challenge he is determined to bring that woman out. In the process he finds himself caring far too much for his "pretend" fiancee.
Lauren, on the other hand is determined to leave at the end of the summer with her heart intact. After her first wedding was scandalously aborted (see One Night for Love) Lauren is convinced she will never be able to love again. However, she is not made of stone and very soon she finds herself hopessly drawn to Kit. His devil-may-care attitude fascinates her and the pain she glimpses behind his laughing eyes and happy-go-lucky attitude brings her dangerously close to falling madly in love.
Balogh has outdone herself with Kit and Lauren. Never before have I read a book with characters that were so perfect for one another. Kit is an absolute joy to read, his charm and endearing ways had me sighing over and over. Also, the dialogue sparkles and the developing relationship between Kit and Lauren is belivable and incredibly executed. I have said before that Balogh is the closest one can get to a modern day Jane Austen and this book just reinforces my opinion. In short, this is an incredible book and I cannot recommend it enough. :0)

If you only read one Regency romance...
By MattieG
... do yourself a favor, and make it this one. This is my second-favorite romance of any genre, of all time. It is the most purely romantic novel I've read.

Everything is perfect. The two leads are complex, interesting, vulnerable and flawed, and the tentative way they both slowly flower within their relationship made me weep, in more than one place within the story. I can't remember when I was more moved by a romance novel, and as a voracious reader of every star author of the Regency genre that is saying something. Few books even approach this one both in satisfaction of a great read by a skilled author or in the way the story itself resonated within me.
The heroine Lauren was especially well-written. Her pride and gentility broke my heart. She is exactly what a regency-era heroine should be, but crafted in the timeless mold of a Jane Austin character. She isn't wild, or spunky, or goofy/silly/helpless, she isn't motivated by lust, or financial need, nor does she use the speech patterns and vocabulary of a modern American woman. She is British and she is refined, elegant, and every bit a lady. I wanted her to be happy. She deserved happiness.
Likewise, Kit, her partner, is also exceptionally attractive as a human being and a man, not a cliche of the genre. He is a realistic man, not a real macho man, vulnerable, occasionally thoughtless, and refreshingly kind.
The novel itself does conform to the standards of the romance genre, but not so much so that the inevitable conflict and resolution detract from the character's growing love for one another. They fall, and stay, in love. Isn't that, and not some sub-plot/murder mystery/comedy of errors/love-hate-love-hate abuse & forgive S&M knot the essence of a romance?
Some may fault the story for not being lust-driven but I cheered the novelty and the skill of the author in crafting desire based almost entirely upon affection and mutual respect. I enjoy an erotic romance more than most, but I loved this gentler story even more.
Get this book. You can't go wrong.
