Selden enlivens the facts with humorous anecdotes and a cheerful, personable writing style. Errors and inconsistencies are minor. The book lacks an index, bibliography, and master list of films, but includes a section of black-and-white photographs. Other Disney biographies include DiFranco's Walt Disney: When Dreams Come True (Dillon, 1985; o.p.), which is less detailed than Selden's; Montgomery's fictionalized, abbreviated Walt Disney: Master of Make-Believe (Garrard, 1971), for younger children; and Fisher's The Walt Disney Story (Watts, 1988), for YAs, which focuses more on Disney's film work and overall achievements than on his personal and family life. --Ann W. Disney Determination Leads to Sensational Success

I was instantly captivated by this book because I had no idea that Walt Disney had such a rigid father who dominated the family. I wonder though, if Walt would have been so successful without the type of upbringing that he had. He and his brother are fine examples of two people who made lemonade out of lemons. Walt seemed undaunted by failure. He learned from everyone and everything around him and his empire is proof of what hard work and a determined spirit can achieve. I want to know even more about the Disney empire.

I thought it was a book for adults, but it is meant for children (Maybe 10 - 14 years old). Interesting info...

walt disney bio

This book is perfect for 3rd and 4th grade students. My students enjoyed the anecdotes about Walt's childhood. I liked that it was meaty enough to encourage discussion. The book also includes a section of fabulous photographs of Walt Disney and some early Disney characters. It does not include much info about the Walt Disney Company after Walt's death in the early 1960's.
