The Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder: Pioneer Girl, by Megan Stine

When Laura Ingalls Wilder was a little girl in the late 1800's, her family moved nine times in three years. The Wilders faced great hardships on the prairie. The crops they planted were destroyed by grasshoppers. Brutal snowstorms brought them close to starvation. But for Laura, who was born with her father's pioneer spirit, home wasn't a house--it was being with Ma, Pa, Mary, and baby Carrie. At the age of 65 she put pen to paper and wrote about memories. Through hard work and the help of her daughter, Rose, she became a successful author. The wonderful books she left behind tell the story of a rich life in the face of good times and bad.

Read This AMAZING Book!!
By Mia
Have you ever wanted to live in some unsettled land in the west or learn about someone else who survived out there, preferably in the late 1800s? Well, I sure am fascinated by all of those things, which helped me pick the page-turning book The Story Of Laura Ingalls Wilder: Pioneer Girl and I am so glad I did. My questions about how people lived in the 1800s were all answered, along with what to expect when you go out west. And your questions would be answered too, if you try this book.
Before you read this book, you DEFINITELY need to know who the characters are. The first main character was, of course, Laura Ingalls Wilder. She was a very adventurous girl from her early stages up to the end of her lifetime. She also was honest about everything and tried her best at whatever she was told to do. The second main character was Rose Wilder, Laura and Almanzo’s daughter. She was an amazing writer and wouldn’t let anyone or anything get in the way of her achieving her goals. The last main character was Almanzo Wilder, Laura’s husband who was 10 years older than her. Almanzo worked as hard as he could to make money and if he failed, he learned from it and just tried again. He also believed in fair treatment between men and women so made sure that when he and Laura got married that Laura didn’t have to say that she would obey him.
In this fascinating book, Megan Stine writes about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The time period is in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The family began in the “Little House in the Big Woods” in Wisconsin. Laura wanted to be like her father, Charles Ingalls, in every way from day 1. Therefore, she didn’t mind moving 9 times in just a couple of years (that’s what her “Pa” wanted). She married at age 18 to a 28 year old man (Almanzo Wilder) and they had 2 kids: the infamous Rose Wilder and a boy who died at only a few days old. Two weeks after her second child died, their house burned down so they (Laura, Rose, and Almanzo) moved to Missouri. Then at age 65, Laura became an author. She has a great life, but if you want to know more about her in detail and learn about her last couple years, I suggest you read this amazing book The Story Of Laura Ingalls Wilder: Pioneer Girl by: Megan Stine!
In most books, there is a theme (or some form of one). Well, there is a theme of this book as well. Nowadays, we take a lot for granted, like running water and electricity. Well, back then they had to go to a creek to get water and sometimes the creek wasn’t nearby. They also used candles for light and couldn’t use electrical appliances. This book shows how hard their life really was. You need to appreciate some of these basic things we have today because people used to not have those things. This theme is an important theme and you need to be grateful for what we have today.
I think this is an amazing book and it is great for a variety of different readers. Even though you might not think you like nonfiction books, this one was really exceptional. This book might be best for people who like learning about the past or people who like learning about famous people’s lives, but really anyone could read this book and enjoy it just like I did. So give this AMAZING book a try!!

Great short story of LIW life
By A Customer
I got this book when I was 10 years old the first year it was published in 1992. I loved it back then and I still love it today. It wasn't too long however so it does not go into too much detail but it covers the important parts of Laura's life that you would not otherwise know from just reading the Little House books. So if you'd love a short book about Laura this book is a good pick.
