The latest romantic intrigue from Skye (Hot Pursuit, etc.) is as full of contrived cliffhangers as the pulp fiction that inspired its striking cover. San Francisco assistant DA Cara O'Connor and presidential hopeful Tate Winslow are planning their wedding when Cara is threatened with harm and the exposure of an abortion she had in a Mexican clinic decades earlier. An underworld smuggler she convicted seems to be the source, but who's actually delivering the dead rat and sinister notes? Using the pull afforded by their status, the couple arranges protection from FBI agent Summer Mulcahey, who stands in as nanny to Cara's two children, and Navy SEAL Gabe Morgan, who poses as gardener on her estate. Summer and Gabe patrol the property, make a dramatic visit to the clinic and fall into bed and love. But despite their constant use of agency technology, they fail to solve the mystery or even keep themselves safe. Indeed, Cara's psychic daughter is the one who finally exposes the rather clueless and unlikely culprits. Although Skye has done her homework on FBI/Navy SEAL jargon and surveillance devices, even beach readers may find the wildly implausible investigation difficult to swallow, and few will likely care about the fate of a privileged couple misusing vast public resources in the face of a patently silly personal threat.

Skye is back with another sizzling adventure romance. San Francisco assistant district attorney Cara O'Connor, soon to wed Tate Winslow, America's most popular senator, has been receiving threats. Enter undercover FBI agent Summer Mulcahey who, posing as the new nanny, is to protect Cara and her sometimes problematic daughters, Audra and Sophy. Since this is Skye, there is, of course, a sexy Navy SEAL, Gabe Morgan, working incognito as Cara's gardener to protect both her and her girls at the behest of the senator. As the threats get uglier, secrets are uncovered that will thrust them all into peril and possibly put an end to Tate's presidential aspirations, but Summer and Gabe, teamed up with the delicious Izzy (his fifth appearance in a Skye novel), go to a ritzy Mexican clinic to discover who is behind the threats. Skye creates delightful and memorable protagonists, and surrounds them with other nicely drawn characters. Diana Tixier Herald

THIS BOOK WAS GREAT
By A Customer
I don't see what some other reviewers said.
This book was a fast read and very hot. The FBI agent was a different touch, and the kids were funny. I think having two sets of lovers in the book was a great touch.
Add in Izzy......and what more could you want!
I can't wait for the sister's story.

Slow Moving.......
By lettetia
Summer Mulcahey, FBI, is going undercover as nanny to the daughters of San Francisco Assistant D.A. Cara O'Connor, who has been receiving death threats. A career criminal is threatening the O'Connor family, and someone is trying to blackmail the DA with an old scandal. Summer knows nothing about kids, ballet lessons, or teenage angst.
Gabe Morgan, gardener, a.k.a. Navy SEAL, is also on the job, providing extra security as a personal favor to the DA's fiancée, Tate Winslow, Presidential hopeful. Gabe is recuperating from a training mission gone wrong, and uses the time to keep an eye on the family within. Summer thinks Gabe is too efficient and Gabe thinks Summer is a little too savvy for a nanny.
When the threats escalate, Summer and Gabe must team up to solve the puzzle before someone is killed. Things really start to escalate with a trip to Mexico by Summer and Gabe to meet with an informant. Trust is a difficult thing for Summer, who was wounded and her partner killed on a stakeout, and she is currently persona-non-grata with her fellow agents in Philadelphia. Ishmael "Izzy" Teague is called in by Gabe for his hacking and computer skills, to assist the pair in their Mexican investigation. But even with all three on the job, the O'Connor family is in trouble.
This is a fast paced book full of action and two simultaneous plots involving Summer and Gabe and Cara O'Connor and Tate Winslow. The children's characters, as well as other secondary characters are delightful and memorable and are integral to the story.
However, this book just didn't do it for me. The story started off rather interesting, the heroine catching the very sexy hero in her shower, beautifully naked, but it was as if the chemistry deteriorated after that. The chemistry between Tate and Cara is electric and sustained throughout the story. It was a much more interesting storyline for me; in fact Tate and Cara take center stage throughout the book. The breakup/reunion scenes were very predictable as I have read them in previous CS books. I hope the next Code Name books are an improvement. C

thrilling undercover romance
By A Customer
Working a nasty case, San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Cara O'Connor takes the threats to her two beloved children quite seriously. Thus Philadelphia based FBI Agent Summer Mulcahey becomes the nanny to Cara kids. Cara's fiancé Senator Winslow also takes the safety of the children Sophy and Audra to heart and quietly arranges for a friend, US Navy SEAL Gabe Morgan to go undercover at the Carmel, California estate as a groundskeeper.
Summer and Gabe realize the other is more than they first seem and exchange résumés. An attempt to hurt the O'Connors fails, but a different type of threat surfaces. Someone has evidence that Cara years ago went to Los Reyes Clinic for an abortion that could derail a presidential run by the senator. As Summer and Gabe fall in love, they remain steadfast that the job is to keep Cara's daughters and their mom safe.
Though the Senator and the ADA seem more like idealistic icons than humans, fans will welcome this thrilling undercover romance. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action as Summer and Gabe show they know their stuff and adhere to the assignment as they protect the children though they fall in love, a feeling neither desires yet both welcomes.
